Granulated blast furnace slag is a waste product of the iron and steel manufacturing industry. The large rotating drum or cylinder that powers the traditional cement slag drier is heated by coal, electricity, or natural gas, among other sources. As the cylinder rotates, wet slag is gradually injected into the drum from one end to the other. As the drum rotates, hot air is forced within, effectively removing the moisture from the slag. The slag is prepared for blending with cement clinker after the required moisture content is obtained, which is typically between one and two percent, by carefully regulating the drying process.
